Playoff Results from Round 1 (4/14):

Never received a scoresheet from the Empire for their B-trophy playoff game against Shenanigans in Durham last week. I (vaguely) remember talking to Kevin from the Rack Pack when he came to the Oasis after his match. I see that I wrote in his team on the bracket sheet on the wall, but I can't say I totally remember it. It is my handwriting, though. So I'm going to assume Shenanigan's won and the Rack Pack will be moving on and facing Duffy's, at Duffy's, this Thursday night. Or, maybe the Empire will show up there if they were the winning team. Ed - you're playing either Shenanigan's or Empire this Thursday night at your place.

For the A-Trophy playoffs:

In the closest match by far, the #2 Down Lo Playa's were home taking on the #3 Oasis Bulldogs. These teams just played eachother in the final week of the regular season in a close 11-10 match won by the Bulldogs, forcing a tie between the two teams in the standings. This time Charles got 2 out of 3 against Brenon, but then Dennis B came back and got all 3 against Jeff Jacobsen. Kevin Cibart got 2 out of 3 against Keith, as did Rusty against Chris Urbach. At the half, teams were tied at 6-6. Jason shot in the 5th spot against Ty and got 2 out of 3, but Bulldog captain Steve came back and got 2 wins against Leland. This made it 9-9 going into the last match - Larry Hiller versus Robbie. Robbie got the first game to get Oasis on the hill, but Larry came back and got the second match to make it hill-hill. According to reports Larry accidentally pocketed the 8-ball early in some fashion giving Robbie the game, and the Bulldogs the match: 11-10. The Bulldogs now go on to face the Oasis Ball Busters at the Oasis this Thursday night.

The #1 seed Outlaws were taking on the #4 seed Stickmen in round one at the Oasis. It was actually pretty close for a while - the Stickmen were hanging in there. Keith got all 3 of his games for the Stickmen, Shawn Bell got all 3 for his squad. Final score: 11-7 Outlaws. The Outlaws stay at home this Thursday and face the Oasis O-Team.

The other #1 seed, the Ball Busters, were hosting the #4 seed Down Lo Damned at the Oasis. It was all Ball Busters as they won 11-4. Walt and Kevin each got 3-0 wins to help their team. Again, the Ball Busters face the Bulldogs this week in round #2.

The third match at the Oasis was the #2 seed O-Team taking on the #3 seed Dragons. This match went in favor of the O-Team, 11-7. Sober Chuck, who shot in the last match mind you, got all 3 of his games to get to 11 points. The O-Team takes on the Outlaws this week.

For the B-Trophy playoffs:

The #6 Eagles were home taking on the #7 seed Tackle Box. Robin was one of the stars for the Eagles team as he got all 3 of his games. The final score was 11-5 Eagles. The Eagles will now take on the #5 seed Bankers at the Oasis this Thursday night.

#5 seed Duffy's had the bye and will stay at home to face the Shenanigan's Rack Pack (or the Empire) this Thursday night.

Good luck to everyone still playing - don't forget about us 'losers' - we're jealous and wish we were still playing, too. If you did get knocked out already, come down to your nearest bar and watch some playoff action and cheer on your favorite team!

Week #20 and Playoff Info
Apr 11, 2016, 3:23 am

Okay, the 2015-2016 regular season is complete!

Here's what happened the final week of the regular season:

In the most important match as far as determining playoff positioning, the Bulldogs hosted the Down Lo Playa's. The two teams were only 1 point different leading into the night - the Playa's were ahead by 1 point in the standings. The two teams came out swinging and ended up in a tie after the first four matches. Chris had a 3-0 game for the Bulldogs, Larry got one for the Down Lo. Jason and Leland beat Ed and Dennis F. in the beer frame, 2-1. In the bottom half it was back and forth and tied going into the last game, 10-10. It was Steve S. against Leland, tied 1-1, and Steve got the final deciding match. But the Playa's got just enough with their 10 to stay tied in points versus the Bulldogs, and win via a tie breaker because they have more wins on the season. So these two teams will face off against each other this Thursday at the Down Lo.

The Down Lo Damned were supposed to play the Empire Club but only a few players made the trip out from Durham. Because they didn't have enough, the Damned gets a free win 12-0 (their season average is 12.11 or so). With their win comes an added gift - the #4 seeded Damned get to play the #1 seed Oasis Ball Busters this Thursday in the first round. The #6 seed Empire will play at home versus the #7 seed Shenanigan's.

Over at the Oasis, the Dragons were taking on the Bankers. Kenny Smith got all 3 of his games to help his team to a 6-6 tie at the break. Jim and Barney beat Walt and Krad for Stacy's beer, 2-0. In the bottom-half Aaron, Micah, and Steve all went 2-1 to get their score to 12, Bankers finished with 9. (Both intoxicated(?) captains signed the score sheet saying it was 13-8, but when using addition I came up with 12-9 - FYI). The #3 seeded Dragons play the #2 seeded O-Team this Thursday night, the #5 seeded Bankers are on a bye in the B-Trophy division.

The Stickmen finished up their season at home versus the Eagles. Lucky for both teams some great bands were playing the entire night - no jazz! Cele got all 3 of his matches to get his team to a 7-5 lead at the break. Terry and Craig beat Rob and Nate in the beer frame, 2-0. In the bottom-half Rob, Scott, and Keith each had 2-1 matches to get the final score to 13-8 Stickmen. The #4 seeded Stickmen will be beating, I mean playing, the #1 seeded Oasis Outlaws at the Oasis Thursday night. The #6 seed Eagles will be playing the #7 seed Tackle Box, at the Eagles.

Duffy's hosted the visiting Shenanigan's crew last Thursday night. Both teams traded 2-1 matches in the first half to get to a 6-6 tie. Kevin K. and Ed beat Mike D. and Matt in the beer frame, 2-1. In the bottom half Brian, Gary, and Mike went 1, 2, 3 consecutively to get their final score to 12-9 Rack Pack. Duffy's is the #5 seed bye this week for the B-trophy playoffs, and the #7 seed Shenanigans will be playing the #6 seed Empire, in Durham, this Thursday.

At the Oasis, the Outlaws were taking on their bar-brothers, the Oasis O-Team. Kenny Duff started the night with a 3-0 win and the rest of his team got either 2-1 or 1-2 matches - mainly 2-1's, except for one person who got a zero against Brian V. Conversely, on the other half of the sheet, most O-Teamers got 1-2 matches (except sober Chuck who got a 2-1 victory), one guy got a zero (but it was against Kenny), and Brian Vignon was the only 'O' to get a 3-0 hat trick. Paul and Ricky won in the beer frame against Brian and Dwayne. This is really starting to sound like a word problem, or riddle. "What is the final score?" Answer: 12-9 Outaws.

All scoresheets are entered and accounted for! The standings are now current and final. Because of the close final match they ironically played against eachother in the final week, the Playa's and Bulldogs finished in a tie for total points. The tie breaker then goes to overall record, which the Playa's have a better one, so that makes the Down Lo squad the #2 seed in the Solids Conference and the Oasis team the #3 seed. They will, again ironically, play eachother the first round of the playoffs, and since the Playa's are the higher seed they will play at home on Table #10. This worked out well - if the Bulldogs were the home team that would have made four matches at the Oasis this Thursday - very crowded, and using table #4 or #5 - technically not regular tables. If Bankers would have been #6 seed, we would of had to have 5 matches at the Oasis! Something to think of next year at the Captain's meeting for sure. Just to note - it looks like the A-Trophy champion will be from either the Oasis or Down Lo - no other bars are involved in that tournament, just FYI.

A complete playoff tournament bracket has been posted online here on our website under the 'Downloads' section (green column to the left), or click on the brackets image above to enlarge and then right-click to save as a .jpeg. Another copy will be posted at the Oasis and sent to everyone in my email list, as well as the final standings and top shooter standings (after the coin flip - see below).

The Top Shooter list has also been updated online. There is a tie in that as well. Philo Hunt and Eric Nichols are tied percentage-wise for fifth place. They are also tied in the first tie-breaker (total # of wins). So it goes to a 2nd tie-breaker which is a coin flip I'll be administering Monday morning with Stacy Schaefer and maybe Barney as witnesses. Winner of the flip will be the true #5 seed in the tournament, loser of the flip the #6 seed. UPDATE: Stacy and Barney witnessed the flip - Philo won the flip and is #5 seed, Eric is #6 seed.

I guess that's it for now. I'll update more through the week if necessary. Good luck to all teams this Thursday for the playoffs.

REMEMBER - the playoffs are a race to 11. That's it, no need to play after that. So captains plan accordingly when making your lineup. And remember the home team only needs to put up one player at a time and the visiting club puts up their pick after that. Beer frames are optional and up to the two teams/bars to decide if they want to play them or not after the 4th match like normal. I believe all new players have added in the appropriate time span and have played in the legal minimum 6 nights (except for Nate on my team, and Brandon F. on the Bulldogs - I need to check his - he's real close, 5 regular nights. I just need to see if he played a 'beer-frame-only' night in addition to his 5 matches) and are paid for. No subs/new players here on out. Captains - be careful that your players are eligible - it is your responsibility, and ignorance is not an excuse. Illegal players can result in a match forfeit - not just their games, the entire match!

Week #18 In The Books
Mar 31, 2016, 6:22 pm

Sorry, sounding like a broken record, but all stats are entered from Week #18 - we are up to date. Just no time for recaps or printouts. The Top Shooter list online still needs to be updated and I'll get to that ASAP. Printouts were emailed last week, so they should be more current than the web's top shooter list, until I get to it.

Sorry, thanks for your patience. Just tonight and next week - then the playoffs!

All stats are in and entered, just not enough time for me to get printouts and emails. Sorry. But everything correct online.

Mar 10, 2016, 8:27 pm

Got the scoresheets finally from Tackle Box and Outlaws - entered all the stats so the website is up to date (through March 3rd games) in regards to individual stats and team standings/points.

I'll try to get recaps tonight or tomorrow.

Week #15 Results
Mar 2, 2016, 1:31 am

Sorry, had to skip week #14. But all the stats are in, except for the Tackle Box's scores for the past two weeks. The Empire is on the road now, and I've talked to Curt to get things straightened out, so they are hopefully set. But now I haven't received anything from Jonny and the Alligator Humpers for their past two matches, against the Empire in week #14 and the Bankers in week #15. So I apologize, but I can't update the stats and print outs with 3 teams now involved with missing info.

Here's the results from week #15:

The Outlaws were home against the Stickmen on February 25th. The Stickmen were actually in the lead going into the Beer Frame. Paul 'Wall' Thurman got all 3 of his games to help the cause. But he and Cowboy Rob teamed up in the beer frame and lost to Gregg and Shawn 2-0. Gregg stayed at the table and got 3 more, Shawn then got 2 more, and Izzy wrapped it up with 3 more to turn a close match into a 13-8 victory.

The Ball Busters were also at home versus Shenanigans. It was all Ball Busters again - Walt and Cal had 3-0 matches, all the rest had 2-1 matches. Cal and Bil beat Mike D. and Kevin L. in the beer frame, 2-0. Final score 16-5 Oasis.

The Down Lo Damned were home taking on the visiting Bulldogs of Oasis. The Damned went into the Beer Frame with a 7-5 lead, then went to 9-6 with Whyatt's 2 wins in the 5th spot. Richard got 'only' one in the 6th spot, but that put them on the hill 10-8. They only needed one more win to take a big match, but they also needed one more player. They didn't have a 7th shooter so they gave the Bulldog 3 free points taking them from 8 to a 'come from behind win' 11 points. Steve and Ed also got the beer frame from the Nixons, 2-0. Final score: Damned 10, Bulldogs 11.

The Playa's were also at home last week - they were taking on their upstairs neighbors, Duffy's. The Playa's got out to a hot start with 2 points from Tom, Rusty, and Larry. Kevin Cibart got all 3 of his in the 4th spot to get the team lead to 9-3 at the break. Captain Ed and Kevin Kinell took the beer frame from Leland and Chef Jason, 2-0, for a free road beverage. Kevin K. and Ed chipped in 2 points each in the bottom half, but in a rare appearance as a closer, Charles won the last 3 games of the night making it a 14-7 Playa's win.

In an Oasis vs. Oasis matchup, the Dragons were 'home' versus the O-Team. This match couldn't get any closer. Teams pretty much traded 2-1 matches in the first 4 games to make the score 7-5 Dragons half-way through. Steve Hambek and Aaron Smith beat Joel and Brian Vignon 2-0 in the Beer Frame to earn the valuable bragging rights (for the night). The Dragons started to pull away after the Scotch Doubles match as Steve Hambek got all 3 of his games to get the (underdog?) Dragons to the hill, 10-5. Kenny Smith made an appearance and got a big win right off the start against Brian V. and got the Dragons to 11 points and the victory. Brian did get the next two points, and Joel wrapped it all up with another 3-0 victory to make the final score 11-10 Dragons.

Again, still waiting for a Tackle Box/Bankers sheet. I'll update when available.

Good luck to everyone in Week #16 - it's an interleague night (the last one of the year) so every team plays - no byes this Thursday. Hard to believe, but just 5 more weeks before playoffs begin!

Week #13 Results
Feb 18, 2016, 5:35 pm

All the stats are entered and everything is up-to-date, except for the Empire vs. Oasis Ball Busters match. Empire failed to turn in a score sheet again for Feb. 11th so those team's results have been omitted. I'll be seeing Cal tonight at the Oasis and as I did last week with the Dragons, I'll get a score sheet from the visiting team and enter the details asap.

So the Empire only has one more home match this season and it's against the Playa's. I'll just have Kevin or Leland send me the results and I'll buy them a beer for their 10 seconds of inconvenience. This will be the last Empire delay of the season - next season we'll work out a different schedule for their bar.

In other news, half the teams won, half the teams lost last week. Some did very well while others did not. I saw Brenon had a 3-0 night with a break-and-run, good job to him.

With the score sheet delays the past two weeks, I haven't had current printouts. I'll work on getting those posted ASAP. The website is current, except for the aforementioned teams.  Sorry for the lack of recaps, but it's been a busy week.

Good luck in week #14. It's an interleague night so everyone plays - no byes.

Week #12 Results
Feb 11, 2016, 4:59 pm

Here’s what happened in Week #12 (Feb. 4th):

The Stickmen were home at the Down Lo as the Duffy’s crew headed down to the basement for some pool festivities. It was fairly close at the break – Duffy’s was up 7-5. Ice Cream was able to get all 3 of his games in the 4th spot to take the lead. Cowboy Rob and Cele defeated Ed and Evan in the beer frame, 2-1. The bottom half was all Duffy’s – Steve Swim and Evan got 2 each and Ed wrapped it up with all 3 against Scott. Final score: 14-7 Duffy’s.

Over at table #10, the Playa’s were taking on the Oasis Outlaws in probably the top-billed Game of the Week. As expected, it was tied 6-6 after the first 12 games. Charles got 2 – one of them via an 8-ball Break-and-Run (his league-leading 3rd of the year!), but then Kenny got 2 for his club. Mike Brandt got all 3 to take the lead, but Leland got all 3 of his to tie it up. Matt ‘Tree’ Fields and Kenny Duff got the beer frame against Leland and Kevin, 2-1. In the final matches it was all Playa’s as they got 8 of the final 9 games. Larry got 2, Kevin got 3, and Chef Jason Colabove (the February Upgraded Living magazine cover model) got all 3 of his to make the final score a surprisingly decisive 14-7 Playa’s win.

Sorry ladies – no centerfold layout.

Out at Shenanigan’s, the Rack Pack were hosting the Eagles club. Kevin Langstaff and Mike Dowd each got 3-0 wins for the home team, and Jon COX got a 3-0 win for his Eagles. When it was all said and done, the Rack Pack defeated the Eagles 13-8. Jon COX and Bobbo did get the road beer frame win as they beat Brian and Drew 2-0.

The Oasis Bulldogs were at home as the Tackle Box Alligator Humpers made their way across town. The two teams were tied at 6-6 at the half thanks to a bunch of 2-1 matches. Steve and Robbie got the Beer frame 2-0 against Jonny and Bob Cody. In the bottom-half, though, it was 99% Bulldogs. Robbie “only” got 2 wins, Dennis got all 3 of his, and Ty wrapped it up with a bow and a 3-0 win. Getting 8 of the last 9 games got the ‘Dogs to 14, Tackle Box to 7.

The Bankers had the tough task of taking on their barmates, the Oasis Ball Busters. In the end the Ball Busters ended up with 18, the Bankers 3. The Ball Busters actually ran the first 16 games in a row to make it 16-0 before Barney got the Banker’s first point in the 6th match. Russ was the Banker MVP as he got the final 2 points of the night off Cal. Walt, Bob Tracy, Bil, Kevin Lombard, and Brian Norman (last weekend’s 4th place tournament winner) were the 5 players in a row that got 3-0 wins. Eric got his first one to make it 16 in a row, but lost his 2nd match to Barney. In a surprising underdog note – Bankers Ken Forbis and Russ beat Ball Busters Brian Norman and Eric Nichols 2-0 in the beer frame.

The Oasis O-Team were the third team at home at the Oasis. Their opponent for the week was the Down Lo Damned.  I wouldn’t say it was surprising, but it wasn’t totally what I expected. The Damned are playing great, don’t get me wrong, but the Oasis O-Team have the best squad they’ve had in a long time. But the Damned jumped out to a 10-2 lead at the break thanks in large part to Goran and Tony Tokarski’s 3-0 wins. Dave Larabee and Philo chipped in 2-1 wins to get to that commanding lead. The Nixons were in the beer frame and they beat Chuck and DJ 2-0. Dwayne cleaned things up and tried to right the ship in the 5th match as he got all 3 for his home team. But Richard Nixon came up next and got 3 of his own, making it 13-5 Damned. Joel, last weekend’s #3 tournament finisher, got 3 more for his Oasis club but it was too little too late as the final score was an (upset?) 13-8 Damned victory.

Out in Durham, the Empire Club was the home team welcoming in the Oasis Dragons. Again, I do not have the Empire’s score sheet so I don’t have results and stats for their match. I play the Dragons tonight so I’ll get the sheet from them. I was tempted (as other captains agreed and have voiced their concerns) of having them spend the rest of the season on the road to ensure I can get a score sheet from a local captain. The Empire only has one more home match for the year, against the Playa’s, so I’ll probably just hit Kevin up to take a picture of the sheet and avoid the delay. Sorry everyone, my hands are tied.

I’ll print the standings and stats from what I have, but realize it does NOT include whatever happened in Durham last week. I’ll update it online tonight, but the printouts/emails will be slightly off. Top Shooter list on the website will be updated tonight as well.

Good luck to everyone in week #13, except for the Playa’s and O-Team – they have their byes this week. Rumor has it Kevin Cibart will be at the Down Lo looking for sparring practice opponents if you are interested. Bring cash.
