Week #5 Results
Dec 5, 2012, 1:37 am

Here are the results from Week #5 (November 29th):

Have to get it out of the way - fast but painful, like ripping off a Band-Aid. The Stickmen got there asses handed to them by the Playa's, 20-1. Yes, twenty to one. A whole crap-load of Playa's got 3 wins - Charles. Leland. Kevin. Leo. Larry. Dwayne. Tom really sucked and got only 2 wins (sarcasm). Paul Wall was the lone Stickman to pull his head out and get a win - the rest of them got drunk and contemplated suicide. Amer and Leo won the beer frame and frolicked joyfully after doing so. Wheezel said "Man, if I was there..."

Alright, moving on to other bars that actually housed real pool matches...

Out in Durham, the Empire Club lost 8-13 to the Duffy's Tavern crew, but the Empire players consoled each other and were overheard saying "Hey, at least we scored 7 more than the Stickmen!" The teams were tied at the break, but Duffy's poured it on in the end by getting 2 from Ed and Steve, and 3 from Kevin Kinnell to wrap up the night. The Empire won the beer frame 2-0.

The Bulldogs were home taking on their fellow barmates, the Bankers. The Bankers were up 7-5 at the half-way point thanks to Mark M.'s 3-0 showing. Mark stayed at the table and joined up with Bill to take on Steve and Ed in the beer frame. The Bankers won 2-0. In the bottom matches Jon and Alec got the Bankers to 10 points, but Bulldog Ty stopped their victory dance with a 3-0 win to give the 'Dogs an 11-10 final score.

Also at the Oasis, the Tackle Box made the trip over to take on the Oasis O-Team. The O's welcomed back to their team Joel Russo who led off and got 2 quick points. James followed him with 3 of his own, but Rich Jr. struck right back and got a 3-spot himself. At the break it was 7-5 Oasis. Jimmy Nguyen and Brian V. got the beer frame, beating Bob and Trevor 2-0 - Stacy smiled. Brian and Aaron each got 2 more for the O-Team, and Slade wrapped it up with a nice and pretty 3-0 bow to make the final score 14-7 Oasis.

On table 5 at the Down Lo, the Damned Loungers welcomed in the Eagles squad. It was another ass kicking as the Down Lo won 18-3. In fact, each Damned individual player scored at least 1 more win than the entire Stickmen team. Tony, David, Yang, and Stephen W. each got 3 wins, the other 3 players scored two each. Same story, different week - Chico bar owner's either worst nightmare or best friends, Yuli and Yang, teamed up and got yet another beer frame. After the match, Eagles players were quoted saying "Whew, at least we won 2 more than the Stickmen!"

The Last Call hosted the Dragons-Rack Pack duel. The Dragons didn't get the memo that they were the Pack's guests and stuck it to them pretty handedly (but not as handedly as the Playa's did to the Stickmen). The Dragons only won 17-4, not 20-1. The Dragons almost made it official in the first half as they were up 10-2 going into the beer break. Steve Hambek and Micah each got 3-0 hat tricks, as Aaron and his dad got 2 each. Steve and Aaron teamed up for the beer frame, taking on the host's Rob and Curtis. Dragons won 2-0. In the bottom frames John and Jeff kept the heat on as they each got 3. Nick at least let his Rack Packers put away their cues on a good note, he got 2 out of 3.

Interesting fact, or at least a fact - every match had 2-0 beer frame wins. No 2-1 victories. Wow.

OK, once the sun comes out again we will continue the season with week #6. Except if you are a Bulldog. You will do the Bulldog things you do in your spare time this week - you are on a bye. See you in week #7. Everyone else, wish the Stickmen good luck.

Also, I have a few players/teams who now owe $25 for their late player adds (and now face forfeited points) - if you own a Walt, a Mike, and/or an Alec (or Alex) for example, on your team you better get in contact with me right away.

Week #3 and Week #4 Results
Nov 16, 2012, 10:22 pm

Sorry about the web site issues. Should be all good here on out, hopefully with a few upgrades as a bonus.

Here's the results from week #3 (November 8th)...

Out at the Empire Club, the Stickmen car pooled down the Midway. The Empire was there waiting for them, as they got out to an 8-4 lead - thanks to James' 3-0 win. Bob and Troy beat Sundy and Wheezel to get the beer frame at home, 2-0. Troy got 2 in the 5th spot, but Madsack and Scott got 2 each to get the final score to 12-9 Empire.

The Down Lo Diamondbacks were home hosting the Oasis Bankers last Thursday. They got out to a quick lead and actually won the match in the first half as they were up 11-1 going into the beer frame. Kenny Duff, Mike Karol, and Greg got all 3 of their games. The two Banker's Marks teamed up against Ricky and Bulldog in the beer frame, and the Bankers won 2-1. Mike Brandt and Rusty kept the 3-0 games going in the 5th and 6th spot, but Bill Ide got 2 out of 3 to make the final score 18-3 D-Backs.

The Tackle Box was finally at home taking on the traveling Eagles. The Eagles came out on top 16-5 thanks to David, Terry, and Jon's 3-0 hat tricks. Trevor and Rich Jr. won the beer frame 2-1, defeating Jon and Donny.

In a fairly close match, the Dragons were up against the Down Lo Damned at the Oasis last week. David Larabee and Steve traded 3-0 wins for each of their respective teams making the halftime score 7-5 Damned. Yule and Yang played in the beer frame again, and won again, beating Jeff and Jason of the Dragons. Yuli and Yang got 5 points combined to get them to 12, but Aaron Smith got 3 in the final frame to make it a close 12-9 Damned Lounge victory.

Also at the Oasis the O-Team was welcoming in the Duffy's crew. On paper, the game looked like it was going to be a close one but it turned out to be anything but. James V., Jimmy N., and Cap'n Mike started the night with 3-0 wins. Stacy's 2-win match gave them 11 points and the win at the break. Brian V. and Mike got the beer frame as well, beating the tandem of Kevin and Steve S 2-0. In the bottom half Oasis Brian and Slade got 2 wins, and Aaron got all 3 of his to give their O's a surprising and decisive 18-3 victory. Captain Ed was out of town, but I'm sure he would have rather come back to a different outcome.

Downtown at the Down Lo, the Playa's were home against the visiting Bulldogs. Dennis Bruch was the lone shining spot on the Bulldogs half of the score sheet - he got all 3 of his games, one via an 8-ball break and run. Dennis kept his hot hand going on the big tables of the Down Lo as he also won the beer frame with Ed, beating Amer and Dwayne 2-1. For the Playa's, Charles, Jason, and Leo got all 3 of their games. Gregg 'only' got 2 games, but one of them was a full run out. Final score: Playa's 15, Bulldogs 6.

The Last Call Rack Pack were on the bye for week #3. The Stickmen start a 2-week Thanksgiving vacation with a bye week in week #4.

Surprisingly all the score sheets are in for week #4 - by Saturday night!

So here's the results for week #4 (November 15th)...

The Diamondbacks of the Down Lo were at home welcoming in the Empire Club of Durham. James shot out of the gate for the Empire getting all 3 of his games. Unfortunately those 3 points turned out to be 3/5ths of their total points for the night. Greg, Ricky, Mike Brandt, and Jimmy Scott all got 3 wins to give the D-Backs a 16-5 win. Eric and Troy did get the beer frame, though - beating Greg and Izzy 2-1.

In a battle at the Oasis, the 'home' team Bulldogs were taking on the Oasis O-Team. The Bulldogs were up big at the break - 9-3, thanks to Keith and Chris getting all 3 of their games. Steve and Ed beat Mike and Aaron in the beer frame, as Stacy was buying either way. In the bottom half, the O-Team woke up and got 6 of the final 9 points and got back to a respectable 12-9 loss. Aaron got it kick-started with a 3-0 win in the 5th spot.

The Down Lo Damned Loungers were home this week taking on the Tackle Box. The Damned came out on top 16-5 as David Larabee and Steve McGrill got all 3 of their games. Captain Stephen got all 3 of his games, but that was due to a forfeit - the Tackle Box failed to field a 7th shooter. Believe it or not but Yuli and Yang teamed up for the beer frame and won again beating Trevor and Rich Jr. 2-0.

Also facing off at the Oasis was the Bankers versus the Dragons. Krad and Aaron each got 3 wins for the Dragons giving them an 8-4 lead at the half. Steve and Micah teamed up for the scotch doubles beer frame against the team of Jim and Mark. The Dragons came out victorious 2-0. Steve got 3 in the 5 spot and Micah got 2 in the 6th spot to get them to 13. Avoiding a huge Dragon win, Bill Ide came in and wrapped things up in the 7th spot for the Bankers with a 3-0 win. Final score: Dragons 13, Bankers 8.

Over at Duffy's Tavern, the Duff crew were home against the Last Call Rack Pack. It was all Rack Pack in the first half as they jumped out to an 8-4 lead. Pat and Gary led the charge with 3-0 victories for each. Ed and Prana got the beer frame, defeating Gary and Nick 2-0. Duffy's roared back in the second half as Prana, Steve, and Shawn each got 2 wins, but it left them 1 point away from a big comeback. Final score: Last Call 11, Duffy's 10.

Everyone is off this next week for Thanksgiving. Please take a few days, or at least hours, away from billiards and enjoy some time with your family. We all resume on November 29th, except for the Diamondbacks - they have their bye week.

There are a few players out there that haven't paid yet. I haven't had time to track it all down and contact the Captains, but once I do - and the players aren't paid for still - penalty fees and/or point subtractions will occur. In other words - last chance to pay your dues at the Oasis.

Happy Thanksgiving, and good luck in week #5!

Week #2 Results
Nov 6, 2012, 11:58 pm

It's official! Individual stat percentages are now part of the stat section on this website - no need for an outside spreadsheet! Once you click on the 'Statistics' tab in the left-hand column, two important things to know for right now:

1). You can sort the stats list by percentages by clicking on the heading 'WP' (win percentage) - click once for high to low, again for low to high. Note that the list only shows the first 100 players of the league on page 1, then the other 20 or 30 players on page 2. So if you sort the page it only does the current page, it won't include the 2nd page players. Until it is changed (hopefully), there is a work-around: Click on any team in the team filter drop-down box. Once it loads that team, go back and select 'all teams' in that same drop-down menu and it will show ALL players on one page. Then sort by percentages to get an accurate leaderboard of ALL players in the league. Sorry for the annoyance - I'm working on it.

2). For some reason it doesn't consider 100% as the top percentage, it puts it down at the bottom of the list, just above 0%. I'm working on that too, but as good as those guys are I don't think they'll stay at 100% and when they drop to 95% or whatever they will show up at the top of the list again. For those players that are 3 for 3 all year, it would be good to have them down on the bottom anyways.

So that's the news on that, here's what happened last week:

The Dragons were in another close one this week. They were 'home' versus the Oasis O-Team. The O-Team was up 7-5 at the break as teams traded 2-1 games. Steve and Krad beat Jimmy Nguyen and Mike Clarke giving the Dragons the beer frame 2-0. Dragon Steve got 3 wins in the 5th match, and Krad got 2 more, putting the Dragons on the hill 10-8. But O-Team Aaron came up big in the final match and got all 3 games to give his O's a come-from-behind 11-10 win.

At the Down Lo, the Stickmen were home hosting the Eagles. The Stickmen jumped out to a 7-5 lead thanks to Cele's 3-0 victory. Keith and Sundy kept the momentum flowing into the beer frame as they beat David Napier and Jon Cox 2-0 for the honors. David got 2 in the 5th match for the Eagles, but Keith Abarra came back and got all 3 wins in his match, and Madsack cleaned up the night with 2 wins in the 7th spot, giving the Down Lo Stickmen a 13-8 victory.

A couple tables over, the Playa's were also home hosting the Tackle Box, who were on the road at the Down Lo for the 2nd straight week. It wasn't pretty. Getting right to it, the Playa's won 21-0.The Playa's dominated as much as you possibly could. Gregg and Amer even got the beer frame 2-0 beating Trevor and Zook. So here's the 3-0 list: Charles, Kevin, Leland, Gregg, Leo, Dwayne, and Larry. The Down Lo even had a record 4 break and runs during the night - Charles, Kevin, Leland, and Leo accomplished the task. On the bright side, the Tackle Box get to play their first home game of the season next week.

Upstairs at Duffy's Tavern, the Bankers started their season on the road after a week one bye. The Bankers got their season off on the right note with a close 11-10 win at Duffy's place. Paul and Shawn each got 3-0 wins for Duffy's, and Mark Murgia and Mark Edwards each got 3-0 wins for the Bankers. Ed and Shawn couldn't get the beer frame again as Jim Wilson and Mark Edwards stole the honors on the road.

Out at the Last Call, the Diamondbacks were the road team, but they didn't play like it. At the break, the D-Backs were up 10-2 thanks to Kenny and Greg's 3-0 victories. Ricky and Rusty got 2 each. Kenny and Greg teamed up in the beer frame to defeat Kevin Nickas and Nick Altenberg 2-0. Jimmy Scott got 2 in the 5th spot, and Bulldog got 2 in the 6th spot, putting the Down Lo team up 14-4. But Rob Francis made it a little more respectable with a 3-0 showing in the 7th spot, making the final score 14-7 Diamondbacks.

The Bulldogs of the Oasis were home against the Down Lo Damned (the team formerly known as Towne Lounge I). The Damned were up 7-5 at the break thanks to Stephen Well's lead-off 3-0 win. The Chinese Connection of Yuli and Yang were back in the beer frame again teamed up against Captain Steve and Brian Augustine this time. Same results though - a beer frame win for the Damned. The Damned kept piling it on as Pat got 2 in the 5th spot, Yuli got 2 more, and Yang wrapped it up with 3 more at the end. Final score 14-7 Damned Loungers.

The Empire Club was on the bye last week. The Last Call Rack Pack get to take this week off.

Looking for another place to play pool? The Tackle Box will be hosting a tournament this Wednesday, November 7th. If my memory is correct, the buy-in is $5 and the spots will be picked around 6:00pm. Call the Tackle Box to make sure, or Jonny or Rich Jr.

Also - check your pool bags - a spotted cue ball came up missing at the Down Lo last Thursday night. If you picked it up, let me know, I'll return it to the proper captain no questions asked.

Good luck this week!

Week #1 Results!
Oct 30, 2012, 8:40 pm

Great news! After a few years of failed attempts, I have the web site hosting company (MySportSite) currently working on getting the win percentages to show up here on the website, eliminating the need for me to enter them all again in a spreadsheet to get the top shooter statistics. (Make that incredibly friggin' awesome news!) I'll update you as I know more. So no individual stats yet, but once it's ready I'll dump them all in. Sweeeet...!

Ok, the first week is in the books! It looks like it got off without a hitch - including the inaugural night at Duffy's Tavern. Here's what went down...

The Eagles buzzed in the Oasis Bulldogs last Thursday at the 'Hall. The first half was close as the Bulldogs were up 7-5. Keith and Chris got 3-0 wins for the 'Dogs, as Bobbo kept things close with 3 of his own for the Eagles. Jon and Donny beat the Oasis tandem of Keith and Brian 2-1 for the Beer Frame win. In the second half Ed, Ty, and Steve-O got 5 points for the Bulldogs giving them a 12-9 victory on the road.

On the North end of town, the Last Call Rack Pack welcomed in the Durham Empire Club. Teams traded 2-1 games in the first half and the Empire was up 7-5 at the break. Bob Cody and Troy got the Beer Frame, beating Kevin L. and Pat C. 2-1. Troy went back to the table in the 5th spot and got 2, but Last Call Gary got 3 right back in the next frame. Empire failed to field a 7th shooter, so they gave the final 3 points to the 'Pack, making the final score 12-9 Last Call.

The Oasis O-Team was in a dogfight with the Down Lo Diamondbacks over at the Oasis. It was tied 6-6 at the break, and Mike Clarke and Slade got 2 wins each in the 5th and 6th spot putting them on the hill, 10-8. But Captain Mike Karol saved his stuff for last getting a 3-0 sweep in the last frame giving his team a last-second come-from-behind win on the road. Final score: 11-10 D-Backs.

The Down Lo Stickmen were home taking on the Spinners of the Tackle Box. Cele and Brian started off the season/night with back-to-back 3-0 wins. Sundy chipped in 2 more, but Tackle Box Bruce got 2 wins to stop the momentum. At the half it was 9-3 Stickmen. Scott and Madsack couldn't get the Beer Frame as Trevor and Bob took it 2-1. New Stickman Sam got 2 wins, as did Madsack in the bottom half. Keith finished the night with a 3-0 victory to give the Down Lo squad a 16-5 home win.

Also at the Down Lo, the returning champs from 2011-2012 started their repeat bid for the 2012-2013 season. Last season they went undefeated up until week 26, but they almost started this season 0-1. The Dragons were in the house bringing their A-game to table #10. It was 6-6 at the break, thanks to Kevin's 3-0 win. Micah, Steve, and Kenny each got 2 for the Dragons. Amer and Dwayne got the Beer Frame, defeating Aaron and John 2-1. Leo shot in the 5th spot and put some separation between them and the Oasis by getting all 3 of his. But Jeff won 2 of his, and Aaron won his first 2 to get the match tied at 10 going to the final game. Larry had to step up and save his team, which he did, in a close final matchup. I believe it came to each of them on the 8-ball. Great match, and the Playa's start out 1-0 as they win 11-10.

Way in the back of Duffy's Tavern lays a big 'ol table many people don't even know about. This year, Captain Ed Theis from the transplanted Towne Lounge II team is calling it home. They welcomed in their previous year's bar mates the Down Lo Damned Loungers (formerly Towne Lounge I). In another close match, the two teams were tied 6-6 after the 4th match. David Larabee got 3 for his Damned team, and Prana got 3 for his Duffy's crew. Ed Theis and Steve Swim couldn't beat the Yuli and Yang tandem and started their beer frame season 0-1, after getting 2nd place in 2011-2012. Ed stayed at the table and got 2 in the fifth spot, but Yang roared back and got 3 of his own in the sixth. In the final match, Steve McGrill got the winning point and one more to boot, giving his Damned Loungers a 12-9 victory.

The Oasis Bankers started their season on the bye once again (sorry guys), but at least now it's out of the way. This week the Empire Club 'gets' to stay in Durham (sorry guys).

Good luck in week #2. Remember: player dues (at the $17 rate) are due on November 6th, the Tuesday after this week's matches, at the Oasis. On November 7th, it goes up to $25 each player.

Keep watching for website stat updates.

Top Shooter 2011-2012
Jun 13, 2012, 12:28 am

Congratulations to the CMPL Top Shooter for 2011-2012

Kevin Cibart

Kevin came through on top in a very exciting 8-man Top Shooter Tournament at the Oasis Bar and Grill last Thursday night. Kevin had to fight his way through some of the best in the league to take home top honors for the 2nd year in a row. In the finals, he had to beat his teammate, Jason Colabove, to become the king of the hill. For his hard work, he earned $100 cash plus the coveted Top Shooter trophy to be given to him this Saturday at the Down Lo during the end of the year pool party and awards ceremony. Congratulations Kevin!

Speaking of pool party - only a few more days remain before the official end of the 2011-2012 season. All players are invited of course, and a guest. As usual - free beer, free food (pot luck and tri-tip), awards, raffle, and many tournaments on the Down Lo array of tables. The party starts around 1:00pm on this Saturday, June 16th. Captains - please remind your players. And everyone - please bring a prize to be raffled! If we want to compete with the Women's prize table, to make more money for our league, we need to sell a lot of tickets and have some great prizes. Please help me out before we take a break for the Summer. Many captains expressed a desire to help me out during the Captain's meeting last October - here's your chance. Call me if you have any questions and/or prizes.
