Week #1 Results!
Oct 22, 2013, 10:45 pm

(I was watching the iconic 'Pulp Fiction' as I was typing this, so I had to include this adapted picture)

And we're off...

Here are the results from week #1.  I have entered the team scores for all teams, but a few teams haven't paid for their players yet (as of 5:00pm Monday): Empire, Tackle Box, Oasis O-Team (except for Stacy, Mike, Jimmy, and Brian V.), Oasis Outlaws, Oasis Bulldogs, and Last Call. These teams have their team scores entered but no individual stats (until paid). Paid players can be seen by hitting the 'Statistics' button. Penalty money and point subtractions will occur this week if not paid.

The unpaid Bulldogs were home hosting the paid and legit Eagles. The Bulldogs came away victorious with a score of 14-7. Captain Steve played last and got all 3 of his games, but the Bulldogs lost the beer frame - Robin and David beat Ed and Paul 2-1. James Skellenger, the winner of the Meucci cue and case combo at last year's Pool Party, presumably won his first league game with it. Congrats!

The unpaid Rack Pack was playing the unpaid Empire Club at Last Call last Thursday. The visiting, re-vamped Empire Club led by Captain Casey won 12-9. DJ, Tom, and Ian each got 3 wins for the Durham crew. Mike D. got all 3 of his for the 'Pack. Of course, all of these points only stand if they pay this week. DJ and Matt got the beer frame for the Empire as they beat the Rack Pack's Kevin Nickas and Curtis.

The half-unpaid Oasis O-Team squeaked out a win against the soon-to-be-paid Oasis Outlaws (the team formerly known as the Down Lo Diamondbacks). The final score was 11-10 O-Team. The O-Team was down 4-8 at the Beer Frame, thanks to Izzy's 3-0 lead-off win. Stacy's Squad even lost the beer frame as Jimmy and Ricky (I think? Pretty illegible...) beat Joel and Mike 2-1 (I think). But in the second half, Joel started off 3-0. James got 1 putting the O-Team down 8-10. The Outlaws needed just one more win, but Slade came through and got all 3 to come from behind and lead his team to an 11-10 win.

The Stickmen were home at the Down Lo hosting the visiting unpaid Tackle Box Alligator Humpers. The Stickmen were up 8-4 at the break, mainly thanks to newcomer Cal's 3-0 win. Sundy and Sam kept things rolling with a beer frame win against Rich Jr. and Kent, 2-1. In the second half it went back and forth, but the Stickmen came out on top 12-9 (9 points pending the Humper's payment this week).

The always paid and professional Duffy's Tavern was home against the paid and legit Down Lo Damned, aka: Team China. Welcomed to the team for 2013-2014 is the unpaid Wei-Yang, not to be confused with Yang Wang from prior years and current member. The Down Lo came out on top, 11-10. Stephen Wells got all 3 of his games for the Damned, as well as Yuli. Duffy's shooters Prana and Kevin got all 3 of theirs as well. Prana and Kevin got the beer frame 2-0, beating Wei-Yang and Yuli.

Downstairs at the Down Lo, the fully paid Down Lo Playa's were home against the Oasis Dragons (paid in full). The Playa's took up where they left off last year, with a resounding 17-4 victory. Granted, the Dragons only had 6 players. Kevin, Larry, and Jason each got 3 wins for the home team. Oasis Jason had half the Dragons points thanks to his 2-1 win. Leland and Kevin got the beer frame 2-0 against Aaron and Krad.

Thanks to all that paid when you were supposed to. Hopefully you realize how easy you make it for me, and how much I appreciate it. Everyone else: payments are now past due and Week #1's points are in jeopardy. Please pay ASAP, or at least call me with an update. The Bankers, who had a bye in week #1 are already paid even though they haven't played a match yet. The Empire Club has the bye in week #2. Everyone else - good luck!

League Starts THIS Thursday!
Oct 13, 2013, 9:59 pm

Here's the checklist so far - it looks like we are a go for this Thursday night, Oct. 17th:

  • The schedule is available to view and download online, it has been emailed, and it has been posted at the Oasis.
  • In case you didn't hear - the Diamondbacks are now the Oasis Outlaws, the Bankers do have a team, and so does the Empire squad (Casey is now in charge).
  • Captains: Please let your bar owner and bartenders know that the price per drink for the beer frame has been raised from $2.75 to $3.00. This is still probably less than their standard price for a domestic beer or well drink, but at least it gets it a little closer to a realistic norm. And as always - beer frame payments are due THAT NIGHT! It's embarassing getting the calls from the bars after a team skips out, so please do what you signed up to do.
  • 2013-2014 Captain's binders are all stocked with copies of rules, schedules, roster sheets, and score sheets. They are now available at the Oasis behind the bar (ask Stacy or a bartender for yours, they each have the bar clearly visible on them).
  • Online rosters have been started. Those players that have paid will be online at this point (go to 'Teams & Standings' and/or 'Statisitics' to see who is paid so far). So far we have 42 paid players. If you are not on the list, you need to pay your captain this week (mandatory if you play on Thursday) the $20 league fee. If you play this Thursday and you or your captain don't pay me by Monday, October 21st at 6:00pm, the penalty is $8 ($28 total). If you aren't paid by the next Thursday, Oct. 24th, and you play in a match on the 24th, you will be an illegal player and your team will forfeit the entire match.
  • I will be at the Down Lo for my match on Thursday with my receipt book. I might even stop by the Oasis to get any payments there, too. So (captains) if you have payments Thursday night, bring them to me and be done with it. Call me that night to see where I am - 966-5632.
  • If you aren't part of the weekly email report, or if you want to be notified with everyone else regarding important CMPL details, or if your email address has changed, send me an email at - chicomenspoolleague@gmail.com - so I can add you to the list. Or go to chicomenspoolleague.com and register as a user. Obviously free and totally spam free.

Well I guess that's all I can do at this point. Make sure you practice these next few nights, especially on the table designated on the schedule.

Good luck, and read the rules!

Schedule Posted!
Oct 11, 2013, 1:52 am

Ok,the 2013-2014 Schedule has been posted online. Simply click on the 'Game Schedule' tab in the left-hand column. You can sort by previous games first or future games first, or even by team.

Please note when playing at the Oasis or Down Lo, the table number you will be playing on is listed in 'match details' or 'match code'. This way you know exactly which table you're playing on to aid in practice sessions.

I'll have the binders and paper schedules ready for the captains this weekend.

Welcome to the 2013-2014 Chico Mens Pool League!

It's that time of year again - school's back in, football is here, weather's cooling off, and, most importantly - time for a new Pool League season!

The website has been turned over to a new season, 2013-2014. Last year's schedule, results, and stats are still available, you just need to click on the year range at the top of the green column on the left-side of the screen. The 2013-2014 schedule has not been made until we get a final confirmation and payment for the participating bars.

Unless changed at the Captain's meeting for some reason, the first games will start on Thursday, October 17th!

CAPTAINS- A few notes for you:

  • Captain's Meeting - Thursday, October 3rd - 7:00pm at the Oasis. This has been traditionally the day of the meeting for many years now - the first Thursday in October, so please no complaints on the picked day if it doesn't work for you.
  • One captain (or delegated player) from each team may attend to voice concerns, ideas, and to vote on league measures. The alternate delegate should be considered an assistant/co-captain. No bar owners, unless they are a player too.
  • Player's dues will be between $17-$20/player (actual amount will be determined at the meeting). Bar sponsor fees ($40/team) will be collected as well. Team rosters (minimum of 7, max of 11) will be submitted at that time. Either collect your players and bars dues prior and bring to the meeting, or pay for it yourself and have your team pay you back later. All rosters need to include players first and last name, phone number, and email. Blank 2013-2014 roster sheets are available to download in the 'downloads' section in the green column to the left. One version is in .pdf (print and fill out by hand), the other in Excel (fill in on your computer and print out or email). Pricing could change at the meeting if a motion for it is voiced and passed.
  • We will be utilizing (upon a consensus vote approval at the meeting) our previously modified rules we had in place last season. We will of course vote on new rules or changes at the meeting, and eventually year by year, we will get closer to using the standardized, officially recognized, nationally approved and used BCA Pool League rule book. I'll bring up the motion to use it this year as I have in year's past, but changes are very slow in this league and I don't see it happening this year, again. Both the 2010-2011 CMPL rule book and the BCAPL rule book can be downloaded in it's entirety, from the download section, again in the green left-hand column, for your information and reference. I might be modifying the CMPL rule book before the meeting - I'll post any new versions as I work on it. All captains are strongly encouraged to look it over in detail and share it with your players PRIOR to the meeting, when we will discuss it's contents, pro or con.
  • I would like to get all captains (mandatory) to become a registered user of this site, and encourage all players to do the same. This will make it more efficient to send out information and updates to either captains or players, or both. I will have a laptop available at the meeting, or you can do it now - black tab near the top of the screen - "Create User Account". Obviously it's free, spam-free, and safe.
  • Please contact me in advance if you have any questions/concerns that will inevitably turn into powder kegs at the meeting. We will discuss and resolve it prior, or find a way to discuss it civilly at the meeting.
  • I will post a basic agenda for the meeting in the downloads section, left-hand column, shortly.

I have my concerns and points to bring up at the meeting, as I'm sure many of you do, too. Players (non-captains): don't forget if you want to have items brought up, talk to your captain, or become a registered user of this site and visit the 'forums' (left-hand column) where there is a thread for 'Suggestions For Next Season' (this season).

The core subject for the meeting will be how to make the rules more standardized and concrete, to cover any or all situations, to make the game less stressful for everyone involved. In the past we were a simple league with simple rules, but now that we have moved into a more technical, rules-driven league, we need to make it more standardized. Please remember, this is a gentlemen's game, and superseding all rules is the core values of sportsmanship, recreation, and fun.

Thanks for your time in reading this - hopefully you're looking forward to the upcoming season as much as I am. Again, please contact me if you have any questions: scotta@chicomenspoolleague.com or chicomenspoolleague@gmail.com

2012-2013 Pool League Party
Jun 25, 2013, 9:23 am

2012-2013 Season is finally in the books. Hope everyone had a fun time at the Pool Party - thank you to our hosts, the Durham Empire Club. In 2014, we're back in Chico at the Oasis. Congratulations to Eagles player James Skellenger. He was the big winner of the Meucci cue and case. Couldn't have gone to a better person - he's only played a handfull of games this season, and didn't have his own cue. So the lucky guy will be starting out with a great cue for next season. He'll have all Summer to practice with it! I threw a few of the pool party pictures up here, but you can find the rest in the 'gallery' (left hand column).

Have a good Summer! Don't forget - captains meeting for the 2013-2014 season is coming up on October 3rd, season kicks off on October 17th.

-Scott-

On a less lighter note, Kym from the Oasis had her car broken into I think on Saturday night at the Oasis. As she stated in her police report, her car was hacked into behind the Oasis in their parking lot. She had her pool case with her cues stolen, as well as her pool league binder and information. Nothing else was stolen or targeted, but apparently the thief knew she had some good cues in there. One of them was the Dale Perry autographed stick she won at last year's party at the Down Lo. She had another one stolen, but I can't remember the details of it. I will try to post more information once I get it from her. She gave me her phone number to post - 518-4018 - to call if you hear or see anything. That cue shouldn't be too hard to spot, so let her know once you find it.

Top Shooter!
Jun 21, 2013, 9:14 am

Congratulations to the 2012-2013 Top Shooter - Charles Lintz!

It was a line up of the best shooters in town for sure. Many on hand saying this was the best group of top shooters they've seen in a long time. All the games were a race to 3, single elimination, winner take all ($100 and a trophy). Here's what happened-

In round 1, Kevin Cibart defeated Gregg Taylor 3-0. On table 5, Dennis Bruch (the 2nd alternate - Mike Brandt was sick, and Yang was in China) was taking on James Williams of the Empire. James won 3-0. On table 10, Mike Karol beat Leo 3-1. In a very close match, Charles defeated Steve Hambek 3-2 on table 5.

In the 2nd round, it was Kevin vs. James, and Mike Karol vs. Charles. James defeated Kevin 3-1, and Charles beat Mike Karol 3-0.

That set up the championship on table #8 - James vs. Charles. Charles got the first game, but James came right back to tie it at 1 a piece. Then Charles went on a two-game run and took home the championship with a 3-1 victory. So once again, congratulations to Charles - our 2012-2013 Top Shooter!

Okay - that's it for the 2012-2013 season. It's finally over! Just one thing left to do - party! The pool party and awards banquet is THIS SATURDAY - JUNE 22nd! Empire Club in Durham, starting at 1:00pm. Free beer, free pool, free food, TONS of raffle prizes, and lots of fun. If you have a raffle prize to donate, bring it with you - anything is good! See you there!

2012-2013 CMPL Champions!
Jun 17, 2013, 3:38 pm

Congratulations to the 2012-2013 Chico Mens Pool League champions - the Down Lo Playa's!

In a very close match, the Down Lo Playa's hosted the Down Lo Diamondbacks. It was the #1 seed vs, the #2 seed. Charles started off the night with a 3-0 win, but Mike Karol came back with a 3-spot of his own. Mike Brandt followed him with 2 more points, but Kevin came back with 2 as well. So after 4 matches, the score was tied 6-6. Larry got 2 for the Playa's, as Rusty got 1 against him, which made the score a close 8-7 Playa's lead. Dwayne decided not to let anybody else on his team play (we think Leo was on deck), and 'selfishly' won all 3 of his games to put it away for the Playa's. Final score: Playa's 11, Diamondbacks 7. Congratulations to both teams - great job 2nd place Diamondbacks.

Ok - this is it - the final week of the 2012-2013 season! We have the Top Shooter tournament on this Thursday at the Down Lo, then the pool party in Durham on Saturday! Speaking of Top Shooters - here's the 'Monster' line up facing off this week:

James Williams - Empire Club

Leo Oviedo - Down Lo Playa's

Mike Karol - Down Lo Diamondbacks

Kevin Cibart - Down Lo Playa's

Steve Hambek - Oasis Dragons

Charles Lintz - Down Lo Playa's

Gregg Taylor - Down Lo Diamondbacks

Mike Brandt, Sr. - Down Lo Diamondbacks

1st Alternate - Zhaoyang Wang - Down Lo Damned Loungers

2nd Alternate - Dennis Bruch - Oasis Bulldogs

3rd Alternate - Shawn Bell - Duffy's Tavern

As you can see, it's a great list. It should be a great tournament! Come down and check it out - Thursday night, 7:00pm at the Down Lo.

If not there, then we'll see you on Saturday, June 22nd at 1:00pm at the Empire Club in Durham for the party and awards. and food. and prizes. and free beer. and pool. and fun. and...

-Scott-

Playoff Update
Jun 13, 2013, 12:44 pm

The 3rd/4th Place match was played last Thursday at the Oasis. It wasn't too close in the first half as the Bulldogs were up 8-4 thanks to Ty and Chris getting 3 wins each, but in the bottom half the Damned Loungers made a game out of it and almost took home the trophy. Yuli and Yang, the famed 'Chinese Connection' were not available, so it was up to Dave Larabee, Pat, and Tom. Dave and Pat each got 2 wins for the Loungers which made it 10-8 Oasis. Tom A came to the table and got a break and run in the 7th spot to make it 10-9, but Brenon got the next game to get them to 11 points and give the Oasis the title of 2012-2013 3rd Place team. They will get a team and individual trophies next Saturday at the pool party in Durham. Congratulations to both teams for a great year.

This Thursday (tonight) is the Championship as the Down Lo Playa's take on the Down Lo Diamondbacks. It should be a great matchup as both teams have some top shooters in their line up. More than likely it will come down to which team has the most depth on their roster, which was evident in the aforementioned 3rd/4th place match up - they needed all 7 of their players. So come down and check out the action. It will be happening on table #10 at the Down Lo (probably the worst table for spectators, so get there early for a good spot) starting at 7:00pm.

Don't forget - Top Shooter tournament next Thursday, also at the Down Lo, starting at 7:00pm. There will be 2 tables used for the preliminary rounds, tables #5 and #10. The championship will happen on table #8.

The trophies have been ordered, the meat is marinating, the raffle prizes are being purchased, the keg has been delivered - everything is set for next Saturday's Pool Party and Awards Banquet (June 22nd, 1:00pm). This is what you paid your dues for - come and take advantage of the free pool, free beer, and free food! Save your money for the raffle prizes, I got some good ones. Here's a sneak peak at one of them:

Meucci Original 84-4 White Cue and Case!

I still need more raffle prizes, and that's where you come in. PLEASE - if you have one, or know someone that can donate one, help me out! More prizes = more money for OUR league.

I'll be at the Down Lo tonight (and next Thursday) if you have any questions. See you there!

-Scott-
